Storyboards - Templar: The Last Remnant

CONCEPTUAL ARTWORK

Every image has to tell a story, whether as a single frame or as a sequence of frames that fly by at 24 frames a second. We take everything into account from color to composition in order to create the most engaging aesthetic possible. And all that begins at the drawing table.

We apply the same approach to our artwork that we do toward everything else. Story is the metronome that dictates our course of action. We start by envisioning the right visuals that will serve the overall narrative. We then seek to ground all our characters, vehicles and environments in that hyper-real reality, ensuring that the overall world gives the impression of a lived-in universe and not just something that looks cool.

Initial sketches evolve into keyframes that are designed to evoke the spirit of the story while capturing an iconic moment that gives a clear indication of what the moving picture will look like. We also incorporate every available tool and method to get to that final image including traditional sketches, 3D models, maquettes and digital paintings.

That same cinematic approach is also carried over to our storyboards. We attempt to frame the action and the details with the camera in mind, giving the director a clear picture of each sequence. Every image proves vital throughout the planning and previz stage and allows for flexibility once the cameras start to actually roll.
